WELCOME TO DEWSBURY ROAD RUNNERS
Hello, and welcome to all.
We are a running club which caters for runners of all abilities, with an emphasis on the social side.
Members are encouraged to improve at a pace which suits them, or simply to enjoy the benefits of running in a group, keeping fit and supporting our local community.
Training Nights
Our two main training nights are Tuesday and Thursday. There is no cost for these. Members meet at 6:15pm and run in various groups, along set routes at 6:30pm, for about an hour. Many then stay and have a drink or chat.
On Tuesdays we meet in the car park at Dewsbury Moor Sports Club on Heckmondwike Rd. WF13 3NU

The Thursday meeting is outside The Leggers Inn at the nearby Canal Basin on Mill St East WF12 9BD https://leggersinn.com/
On all training days, routes of different distances are offered so we can cater for a broad range of runners’ abilities. These are typically from 4 to 8 miles. Often there is a qualified run leader. Winter runs are mainly along well lit roads whereas Summer months will involve more trails.
Throughout the year, we have occasional special events, such as orienteering, speed training sessions, headtorch runs, charity events or competitions .
Our members are very welcoming and someone will always be available and happy to run with newcomers.
A bit about the club...
Dewsbury Road Runners was formed in the early 80’s to cater for all types of runners including fell runners, road runners, orienteerers and social runners. From small beginnings, the club now has almost 200 members and organises one of the area’s largest events, the Dewsbury 10k every February.
The club also organises a trail race, a fell race and cross country races. There are also many competitions for members only .
Historically, based at the recently closed Dewsbury Sports Centre, the club now has events starting from various other local venues.
The club has always been a strong supporter of local charities. Most of the profits from our races go to charity and many of our members work with and support local causes.
Every year, the club has teams in relay races, cross country leagues and vets leagues. Many members can be seen representing the club at events both at home and abroad, with some competing at the highest level.
Not all our members are competitive athletes, some join to enjoy the social side and the camaraderie, some join just for a bit of outdoor exercise with friends. Many do find themselves enjoying the club atmosphere and supporting or competing in races – alone, with friends or as part of a team.
The club is affiliated to England Athletics and Yorkshire Veterans’ Athletics Association.
Other meetings
Every month, we organise a social meeting where club members can get to know each and visit somewhere local for food/drink/an optional slow short run. These could be at a chip shop, coffee shop, pub, ice cream parlour…all in and around the Dewsbury area and usually on a Friday evening. The focus is more on the social than the run. Details on our website calendar.
Our AGM is usually held in November and our annual awards presentation night doubles as our Christmas party. Awards are presented not just to our top performing athletes, but to other worthy winners too.
How to get hold of us
Feel free to come down to one of our informal training nights. We set off at 6:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, or chat to members about coming along for runs, or joining us.
You could also join our leisurely monthly social run/drink/food on the last Friday of the month or see any of our members at Dewsbury parkrun every Saturday morning at 9am
